Friends of Pony Bird welcome new members. The group is open to anyone interested in supporting Pony Bird. Meetings are held at the Mapaville location throughout the year.
Friends of Pony Bird are an organization compromised of family, friends and community members. Their mission is to support Pony Bird’s board of directors, administrative staff, and direct caregivers in providing high quality of care for individuals with severe to profound mental and physical disabilities.
Their mission is achieved through their ongoing volunteer efforts and their support of the individuals, families, and employees through various activities and projects.
Over the years the organization has raised money to help offset the expenses of various Pony Bird projects. Their support has proven essential to projects such as the extended medical unit, the expansion of the DeSoto campus and the creation of the Drury Homes, and the Rejuvenation of the homes located in Mapaville.
They volunteer with the planning, organization, and implementation at nearly every Pony Bird special event such as Pony Bird’s Anniversary Gala’s, Annual Golf Tournament, and Great Taste.
Friends of Pony Bird are a great support group for families with loved ones at Pony Bird. Their help and support extends from simple words of encouragement to one another, a listening ear, and helping families when a child is sick or in the hospital by visiting, providing cards, flowers and meals.
One of the most significant ways Friends support Pony Bird staff members is by providing an Employee Emergency Fund. Over the years the fund has been used to help pay for medical expenses, utilities, or cover emergency expenses that arise. Loans are made to employees interest free and are repaid over an agreed upon time period. The group also seeks out “in-kind” donations for medical, legal, or other services for employees that need extra support. Friends also sponsor and pay for various activities and programs including, “Employee of the Month”, Employee Appreciation Day, and Employee Holiday Party.
They are a true FRIEND when the Pony Bird family needs them!
